The Bible Simplified: The Tree of Knowledge of Good & Evil

"15 And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.

 16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:

 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

18 ¶And the Lord God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him....

21 And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
 22 And the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. (KJV)

1. As the above versus demonstrate, God personally created Man & Woman because it was not good for man to be alone.

2. God also married Adam & Eve and pronounced them man & wife.  Demonstrating that marriage should only be between a man and a woman.

3. Adam & Eve were in a state of innocence when they were created. Yet, it was God who commanded that the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil should be made available to them, thus honoring their Free Will.

4. The name of the tree is significant. Knowledge of good and evil free man from a state of ignorance and allow him to learn the difference between good and evil from his own experience. Knowledge is obtained by experience. Faith comes from revelation of the truth from God to His servants.

5. God also warned Adam & Eve that they would fall from their perfect state of innocence and die if they tasted of the fruit. Thus would begin their mortal probation and the opportunity for them to experience both good and evil.

6. Spiritual death was also a consequence of eating of the fruit. Man walked with God in the garden of Eden. After partaking of the fruit, he was shut out from God's presence. Only faith in the atonement of Jesus Christ and obedience to God's commandments could open the door to communication between God and Man once more.

7. Revelation is a true knowledge of the Past, Present and Future. Those that receive revelation from God through Jesus Christ are known as Prophets.

8. We can learn of God's will through His revelation to His Prophets. All Prophets since Adam bear witness of the Messiah, who is Jesus Christ and His True Nature. They also bear witness to His victory over sin and death.
